New Scholarship from the Association for Women in Science

Women Studying Physics Welcome

Female college students in their junior and senior years of study are welcome to apply for a new 2008 scholarship program sponsored by the Association for Women in Science (AWIS). The 2008 Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award in Physics is designed to support the education of an outstanding female in a physics discipline.

The scholarship aims to reward a student that exhibits an exemplary array of personal and academic interests. Preference will be given to participants that have persevered in the face of life challenges. One-$1,000 scholarship will be awarded and may be used for any type of educational costs.

Award requirements:

  • Applicant must be female, enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program, and in either her junior or senior year of study.
  • Areas of physics study may also include “space physics and geophysics, or geoscience.”
  • Applicants must demonstrate a wide array of personal and academic interests.
  • Essay is required.

Applications contain three components: Summary, Resume, and Reference forms. Deadline for submissions is January 31, 2008. Entries must be mailed to the address on the application. The winner will be announced in July 2008.
