My name is Alexis Ramos and I am seventeen years old. I am attending the University of California Berkeley this fall 2008. Unfortunately my family will not be able to provide the funds necessary to pay for my education. I find myself utterly on my own.

I need this!
Nicholas Patrick Bacon Says:
I have recently been accepted to the University of Alabama in Pre-Engineering. Currently, I am taking Honors Physics and Calculas as well as other dual enrollment college courses during my junior and senior years in high school. Both of my parents are teachers and have worked very hard to send my older sister Lauren, my twin brother Chris, and me to college. Even though I have been working every summer since age 16, I still do not have enough money to attend college and follow my dreams to be an engineer. I would greatly appreciate your consideration for any scholarships which are available for starting to college in the fall of 2009.
Respectfully yours,
Nicholas P. Bacon

Steven McDonough Says:
My name is Steven McDonough. I am a senior at DeSmet Jesuit High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Last year I was diagnosed with a massive intramedullary spinal cord ependymoma tumor. Intramedullary spinal cord tumors are rare and there is no treatment consensus and no cure. My tumor was from the base of my brain to between my shoulder blades and was inside my spinal cord. Every doctor who saw me said I would be left paralyzed and ventilated if I were to have my tumor removed. I underwent radiation but continued to declne. Then, I found Dr. Jallo at Johns Hopkins who is an expert on these tumors. He completely removed my tumor last spring and I have no paralysis. I am recovering, but can walk, drive, and go to school. I am off all meds and am looking forward to majoring in biology in college and going on to medical school. If there is anything you can do to help me with my tuition for college, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.
