Yee-Haw! Texas Rodeo Show Increases Scholarship Donation for 2008

Up from $6.4 Million to $8 million for 2008

Texas students—535 of them—will be very happy when they are presented with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarships next March 2008. The popular program’s stable of scholarships received a significant cash increase following the landslide profits earned from the 2007 show.

The show sponsors 8 different student scholarship awards:

  • Metropolitan Scholarships
  • Go Area Texan Scholarships
  • Opportunity Scholarships
  • 4-H Scholarships
  • Future Farmers of America Scholarships
  • School Art Scholarships
  • FCCLA Scholarships
  • Hildebrand Scholarship

All of the awards categories, with the exception of the Hildebrand Scholarship, fund between 10 and 209 college scholarships. Each of the 534 awards has been increased from $12,000 to $15,000 for the 2008 show.

Students are eligible to apply based on the following criteria:

  • Resident of Texas.
  • Enrollment at a Texas college or university in a four-year degree program.
  • Demonstration of academic talent.
  • Demonstration of financial need.
  • Preference is shown to students with outstanding leadership skills and community involvement record.
