Women In Aviation Adds One Dozen New Scholarships to Their List
Over $335,000 in Scholarship Funds for 2008
Student pilots, flight attendants, certificate seekers and aviation technicians, both female and male: Women in Aviation (WAI) has just announced a bumper crop of new scholarship programs. Already the WAI administers dozens of scholarships. These new programs mean thousands and thousands more dollars will go to aviation students of all kinds.
This is the list of new scholarships added to the WAI list for 2008:
- Delta Connection Academy Scholarship will award one-$5,000 scholarship to a student for Delta’s exclusive pilot’s academy.
- FedEx Express Flight Scholarship features one-$2,500 award for FedEx’s aircraft transport pilot school. Applicants must have a commercial pilot’s license and a four-year degree.
- Kathy K. Hodgkins Memorial Scholarship will award an undisclosed amount for an individual with a private pilot’s license to receive floatplane training.
- New Horizons Memorial Scholarship is expressly designed to provide money to over 35 students pursuing a pilot’s license for the first time. Award is $1,000.
- Elisha Hall Memorial Scholarship is a local, $1,000 award specially designed for Ohio aviators in a number of specific fields.
- Washington State Chapter Scholarship sponsors an aviation student in almost any area. Award is $1,000 and an applicant from Washington is preferred.
- Pratt & Whitney will award 6 scholarships ranging in value from $800 to $3,200 for students pursuing aviation maintenance degrees or certificates.
- FedEx Express Technical Operations Scholarship is $2,500 award also designed for a student pursuing aviation maintenance or engineering as a career.
- Cessna "Earn a Private Pilot’s Certificate" Scholarship is a $5,000 award that will go to an outstanding new student starting out in a flight program.
- Cessna Scholarship for Citation Encore Type Rating is a $18,800 award for a commercial pilot pursuing this rating.
- Airbus A320 Type Rating Certificate Scholarships are specifically designed to help fund the education of pilots interested in these specific flight ratings. Two awards of $32,000 each.
- CAE SimuFlite Citation Corporate Aircraft Training Scholarship is also aimed at a commercial pilot. Award amount yet to be determined.
